Who Is UPSC New Chairman: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has got a new chairman. President of India Draupadi Murmu has appointed former Defense Secretary and senior administrator Dr. Ajay Kumar as the new Chairman of UPSC. The post fell vacant after the completion of the tenure of former Chairman Preeti Sudan on 29 April.

Ajay Kumar served as Defense Secretary of the Government of India from 23 August 2019 to 31 October 2022. He is known for his administrative acumen and strategic decision-making ability.

Apart from this, former bureaucrat Anuradha Prasad has also taken oath as UPSC member on Friday. Anuradha Prasad is a 1986 batch Odisha cadre officer and has made significant contributions in her services. She holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Lady Shriram College for Women and a Master of Arts degree in History from Delhi University. Apart from this, she has a Master’s degree in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts India’s most prestigious civil service examination, through which officers are selected for IAS (Indian Administrative Service), IFS (Indian Foreign Service), IPS (Indian Police Service) and many other central services.
The President of the country appoints the UPSC Chairman. This appointment is made under Constitution 316 (1). At least half of the members are members of a public service (serving or retired) who have at least 10 years of experience under the Government of India or the State. Only the President has the power to remove the Chairman. Let us tell you that the members of UPSC hold their posts for a period of 6 years from the date of assuming office or till they attain the age of 65 years (whichever is earlier). The age limit for the members of the State Commission or Joint Commission is 62 years.
